International Team Develops Ultra-Thin POMbranes for Enhanced Water Filtration and Industrial Separations
WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION
A collaboration among researchers from CSIR-CSMCRI, IIT Gandhinagar, and Nanyang Technological University has led to the creation of new filtration membranes called POMbranes. These membranes feature pores one nanometer wide, allowing for precise molecular sorting.
The technology promises to reduce energy costs and improve water recycling in industries such as textiles and pharmaceuticals, which are significant contributors to India's economy. POMbranes exhibit ten times better separation performance than existing technologies.
