Ireland's Renewable Energy Ambitions at Risk Due to Planning Delays

Ireland is advancing in renewable energy, especially in wind power, which accounted for 24% of electricity last month, outpacing solar generation significantly. With over five gigawatts (GW) of installed wind capacity as of January, the country is on track to meet its ambitious goal of 80% renewable electricity by 2030.

However, the government faces obstacles due to a sluggish planning process. Currently, wind energy contributes 35% to annual production, highlighting its vital role in Ireland's energy landscape.
