Japan's Itochu has expressed interest in Montenegro's planned 50 MW waste-to-energy incinerator in Podgorica, aimed at improving municipal waste management in line with EU directives. A consortium of local and Slovenian firms has been awarded a EUR 435,600 contract for a feasibility study, with documentation expected within two months. This project marks a significant step, as the only existing municipal waste incinerator in the Western Balkans is located in Belgrade, Serbia.
