JA Solar and Partners Launch $210M Solar Manufacturing Hub in Egypt

ENERGY STORAGE

JA Solar and partners have commenced construction of the $210 million Atum Solar complex in Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone, aiming for 4 GW of annual solar manufacturing capacity. The facility will produce 2 GW of solar cells and 2 GW of solar modules, as well as energy storage systems, to support local and regional demand.

The consortium includes JA Solar, Global South Utilities, Infinity Capital, and AH for Industrial Management and Consulting. All solar cell production will be exported to the U.S., while solar modules will serve Egypt and neighboring markets in the Middle East and Africa.

The project is expected to create approximately 840 direct jobs and contributes to Egypt's renewable energy transition, reducing carbon emissions and strengthening domestic supply chains. The initiative aligns with Egypt's strategy to enhance local manufacturing and position itself as a regional clean energy hub.
