Joint Funding Secured for $140 Million Expansion of St. John's Wastewater Treatment Facility

WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION

The federal, provincial, and municipal governments are funding the first phase of a $140 million expansion of the wastewater treatment plant in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The federal government will contribute $69 million, while the provincial government provides $34 million.

The project aims to enhance primary sewage treatment capacity and prepare for a future secondary treatment facility, increasing capacity from 135 million to 160 million liters. Phase one is expected to take five years and may disrupt local residents.
