K2 Pure Solutions Begins Construction of Low-Carbon Hydrogen Facility in Pittsburg, California
K2 Pure Solutions has commenced construction on a low-carbon hydrogen facility in Pittsburg, California, marking a significant step in the state's energy transition. Scheduled to be operational by summer 2026, this facility will expand K2's chlor-alkali operations to produce California's first commercial source of low-carbon, high-pressure hydrogen.
K2 has partnered with PACC Services, which will handle marketing, distribution, and logistics for the hydrogen supply. The hydrogen produced is expected to have about 95% lower carbon intensity than conventional gasoline, supporting California's decarbonization goals.
The project aims to convert a hydrogen byproduct from bleach production into a new clean energy commodity. The facility is anticipated to create jobs and enhance the local economy while addressing the hydrogen supply challenges in Northern California.
