Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) will boost its production capacity by 253 megawatts in response to peak electricity demand surging to 2,444.40 megawatts in January 2026. Projects include the 63 MW Olkaria 1 rehabilitation, a 42.5 MW solar project, and upgrades to hydropower capacity.

Despite a 25.4% drop in net profit to Sh4.22 billion due to decreased financial income and higher taxes, electricity sales rose to Sh30 billion. KenGen is also advancing a 200 MW Battery Energy Storage System to enhance grid stability.
