Metro Railway Kolkata has commissioned a 6.4 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) along the underground Blue Line. This system aims to enhance energy efficiency and ensure passenger safety during power outages.

The BESS is capable of hauling stranded trains and powering tunnel ventilation systems. Developed in collaboration with Delta Electronics India, the project marks a significant step in improving operational reliability and aligns with sustainability goals within India's urban transport infrastructure.
