Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir is emerging as a significant mineral hub with reserves of limestone, marble, lignite, graphite, and riverbed materials. Systematic exploration has confirmed substantial mineral wealth, leading to phased development plans for lawful extraction and sustainable use.

Notable assets include limestone in Trehgam and marble reserves of approximately 26.81 million tonnes. Lignite exploration is underway with estimated reserves of nearly 9 million tonnes. The government is also regulating riverbed material extraction under specific rules.
