Kuva Space Partners with WWF-Indonesia to Utilize Satellite Technology for Blue Carbon Monitoring

CARBON CAPTURE

Indonesia will employ satellite technology to monitor its blue carbon assets through a partnership between Kuva Space and WWF-Indonesia, announced on December 11. This initiative will utilize satellite data and AI to support WWF-Indonesia in mapping seagrass and mangrove habitats in East Nusa Tenggara and East Kalimantan.

The project aims to establish a scalable and evidence-based approach to coastal conservation and blue carbon estimation. The data collected will facilitate blue carbon accounting, policy planning, and sustainable finance, providing a replicable model for other coastal nations. Kuva Space's hyperspectral imaging technology will gather detailed ecosystem data, enabling insights on species distribution, biomass, water quality, and carbon sequestration, essential for verifying blue carbon and enhancing sustainable finance.
