Lambra Kangri Village in Punjab Uses Biogas for Cooking for 10 Years

BIOFUELS

In Lambra Kangri, Punjab, 44 families have been using biogas from cattle dung for cooking for the past decade, thanks to a community biogas plant established by the Lambra Kangri Multipurpose Cooperative Society in 2016. The facility processes 2,500 kg of dung daily, providing affordable methane gas at monthly costs of Rs 200 to Rs 300, compared to Rs 700 for LPG, while also selling leftover slurry as biofertiliser. This initiative, inspired by a South Korean study and supported by Punjab Agricultural University and government funding, has improved sanitation and generated income for the community.
