Laos has launched Asia's first hydrogen-powered coffee roasting plant in Champasak province, aimed at boosting export value and promoting sustainable production. Developed in collaboration with a Japanese company and local coffee producers, the facility uses hydrogen fuel for zero-carbon roasting, leveraging the country's hydropower resources. A larger plant, with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes per year, is set to begin operations in 2027, enhancing local farmers' incomes and market access.
