Limenet Secures $8.2 Million Funding for Carbon Dioxide Removal Operations in Italy
Limenet has raised approximately $8.2 million (€7 million) in funding to enhance its carbon dioxide removal (CDR) operations focused on CO2-free lime production. The funding was provided by CDP Venture Capital SGR through the Green Transition Fund and Fassa Bortolo.
With this investment, Limenet's total capital raised to date reaches about $11.2 million (€9.5 million). The company has developed a technology that combines lime and seawater to convert CO2 into calcium bicarbonates for long-term storage in ocean water.
In just 18 months, Limenet progressed from concept to operational facility in Italy, and in July 2025, became the first Southern European company to sign a CDR prepurchase agreement with Frontier buyers for $500,000 in carbon credits. The new funds will support the expansion of operations and the establishment of an industrial production site in Sicily.
