Logan County to Hold Public Hearing on Data Center Regulations January 6
Logan County is preparing to finalize data center regulations, with a public hearing scheduled for January 6. In October, the county imposed a six-month moratorium on permits for community solar gardens, wind power generation, data centers, and battery storage facilities to develop these regulations.
The moratorium is intended to allow time for the creation of rules for data centers and battery storage, while existing solar and wind regulations are revised. Concerns were raised by the Logan County Economic Development Corporation regarding potential impacts on Granite Renewables' data center plans.
Discussions revealed that proposed data centers would utilize closed-loop cooling systems, minimizing water usage while increasing energy consumption. The companies will be responsible for their power supply and infrastructure costs. The commissioners confirmed that completed regulations would be accessible on the county's Planning and Zoning website.
