Maharashtra Implements Urban Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Policy to Address Water Crisis
WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATIONDATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
Maharashtra's 2025 Urban Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Policy aims to treat 9,107 million liters of wastewater daily. The policy mandates wastewater reuse, establishes institutional frameworks, and aims for economic sustainability by 2030.
Currently, only 47% of the wastewater is treated with 17% reused. The initiative also supports the state's goal of becoming a hub for data centers by providing a reliable water source while alleviating pressures on freshwater systems.
