Major Airlines Face Carbon Credit Shortage Amid EU Tax Threat
HYDROGENCARBON CAPTURE
The world's largest airlines are confronting a significant shortfall in carbon credits necessary for compliance with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). With available credits primarily sourced from a single forest protection project in Guyana, airlines are under pressure to either purchase credits or develop sustainable aviation fuel, both of which are in limited supply. The EU is reviewing CORSIA's impact on decarbonization and may impose a carbon tax on international flights, which could severely disrupt the aviation industry.
