STRATEGIC MINERALS
The Matthew's Ridge airstrip in the Barima-Waini Region is set to undergo an $800 million upgrade, extending its length to 4,000 feet and width to 80 feet, with an eight-inch-thick pavement. This enhancement will elevate the airstrip to a Tier 1 aviation hub, comparable to Ogle Airport, and is expected to improve regional connectivity for flights servicing the manganese mining community and surrounding areas. Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill emphasized the project's local employment benefits and the importance of efficient work amidst challenges.
