Mejillones Ammonia Energy has obtained environmental approval for its $2.5 billion green hydrogen and ammonia project, Volta, in Antofagasta, Chile. The initiative aims to produce 620,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually using a 600MW solar park and wastewater, with construction starting in 2027 and commercial production expected by 2029. The project will initially focus on local demand before considering export opportunities, aligning with Chile's national goal of 25GW of green hydrogen production capacity.
