The expansion of the mining industry in Mindanao is expected to significantly increase future energy demand, as highlighted by Mindanao Development Authority Secretary Leo Tereso Magno. In discussions with Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, they emphasized the need for a stable power supply, focusing on enhancing baseload capacity and accelerating renewable energy initiatives, particularly solar power with battery storage. With peak energy demand projected to rise from 1,600MW in 2014 to nearly 2,600MW by 2024, MinDA aims for a balanced 50:50 energy mix by 2030.
