Mitsui & Co Plans Delayed Construction for Niigata Offshore Wind Farm

WIND ENERGY

Mitsui & Co and its partners, including RWE and Osaka Gas, have postponed the construction of their 684 MW offshore wind farm in Niigata, Japan, to April 2028, opting to use smaller turbines due to rising costs. The project will now feature 46 turbines of 15 MW instead of the originally planned 38 turbines of 18 MW, with operations expected to begin in June 2029. This decision follows the withdrawal of a Mitsubishi-led consortium from other offshore projects, prompting government discussions on industry support.
