National Grid Withdraws Plans for Six Battery Storage Projects on Long Island

ENERGY STORAGE

National Grid Ventures has withdrawn plans for six proposed battery storage projects on Long Island, reducing the number of potential sites from 60 to 20, while continuing to upgrade its Montauk facility. The company will not pursue additional battery sites beyond the two currently operational on the South Fork, amid local moratoriums on new facilities due to past fire incidents. New York aims to achieve 6,000 megawatts of battery storage by 2030 as part of efforts to enhance energy infrastructure.
