NEMA Launches Domestic Waste Management Pilot in Mukono, Uganda with Heavy Fines for Littering

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has initiated a domestic waste management pilot in Upper Nabuti Village, Mukono, Uganda. Supported by the International Growth Centre and the London School of Economics, the project aims to promote waste segregation and improve urban climate resilience.
The pilot will involve training residents to separate waste and will be monitored for effectiveness against a control site in Kiwanga. Littering carries fines of up to 11 million shillings under the National Environment Act.
