New York State Cancels Major Offshore Wind Energy Solicitation Citing Market Uncertainty
WIND ENERGY
New York State has canceled its largest offshore wind energy solicitation due to 'federal disruptions' and market uncertainty. The state aimed to procure 4,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy but now faces challenges in meeting its goal of 9,000 megawatts by 2035.
Existing projects like Empire Wind 1 and Sunrise Wind will provide over 1,700 megawatts. NYSERDA plans to seek industry feedback for future initiatives despite the cancellation.
