NextEra Energy plans to develop the Spud Valley Energy Center, a 600 MW solar and battery storage project on 2,578 acres in Alamosa County, Colorado. The project aims to utilize land previously used for agriculture, as water scarcity drives local farmers to reduce their water usage. Initial construction of 200 MW of solar and battery storage is expected to begin in 2027, with completion by the end of 2029.
