OMV Petrom Completes 45 Million Euro Sulphur Recovery Unit at Petrobrazi Refinery
OMV Petrom has completed a 45 million euro investment in a new sulphur recovery unit at the Petrobrazi refinery, enhancing its refining capabilities and reducing environmental impact. The unit, which treats acid gas during fuel production, is the second of its kind at the facility and will improve operational adaptability while supporting environmental protection.
Construction involved over 350,000 hours of work and included the installation of a new Claus unit and supporting infrastructure. The project commenced at the end of 2023 and was completed in under two years.
Since privatization, OMV Petrom has invested over 2 billion euro in the modernization of the Petrobrazi refinery. The company is also developing a 750 million euro sustainable fuels production unit, expected to be operational in 2028, which will incorporate a green hydrogen component.
