Palisades Nuclear Plant Set to Resume Operations After Major Transition
NUCLEAR
The Department of Energy has disbursed over $491 million for the Palisades nuclear facility in Michigan, which was shut down in May 2022 but has recently returned to operational status. Initially acquired by Holtec for decommissioning, the plant is now poised to operate until at least 2051, with plans for additional small modular reactors.
The funding was finalized in September 2024, aligning with broader federal initiatives to expand nuclear energy capacity. Although it is not yet generating electricity, the facility is preparing to receive new fuel for its reactor.
