Peak Cluster Project: Major Initiative to Decarbonize Cement Production in the Peak District
CARBON CAPTURE
The Peak Cluster Project, backed by £28.6 million in government funding, aims to reduce carbon emissions from three major cement and limestone plants in the Peak District. This initiative, touted as the world's largest cement decarbonization project, will capture carbon dioxide and transport it via pipeline to an undersea storage facility off the northwest coast.
The project is expected to secure thousands of jobs while preventing three million tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere annually. However, some environmental groups have raised concerns about the effectiveness and cost of carbon capture technology.
