Petrobras Initiates Carbon Capture and Storage Pilot Project in Rio de Janeiro

CARBON CAPTURE

Petrobras has unveiled plans for its inaugural carbon capture and storage (CCS) pilot project in Rio de Janeiro, aiming to inject 100,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. This initiative reflects Brazil's commitment to carbon management solutions and follows Petrobras' successful reinjection of 14.2 million tonnes of CO2 in 2024.

The company, which operates the largest carbon capture and utilization program globally, is expanding its efforts to reduce emissions while maintaining energy production. The pilot project signifies Petrobras' intention to explore innovative CCS models to enhance Brazil's energy sector.
