Pinos Altos Exploration Withdraws Mining Plans; Kennecott Exploration Registers New Claims in Gila National Forest
STRATEGIC MINERALS
Pinos Altos Exploration/Ivanhoe Electric has withdrawn their mining operations plan for 642 claims in Gila National Forest, citing low prospectivity. In contrast, Kennecott Exploration, a Rio Tinto subsidiary, has registered 250 new claims in the area.
Local environmental groups and residents expressed cautious relief over Ivanhoe's withdrawal but remain vigilant about future proposals. The claims by Kennecott cover approximately 5,000 acres and are currently under Bureau of Land Management review.
