Plans for Small Modular Nuclear Reactor at Former Nottinghamshire Coal Power Station
NUCLEAR
A former coal power station in Nottinghamshire, the Cottam Power Station, is set to be revitalized as a site for nuclear power generation. Following its decommissioning in 2019 and subsequent demolition of its cooling towers, three companies—Holtec International, EDF UK, and Tritax—have agreed to develop a small modular reactor (SMR) on the 900-acre site. This initiative is expected to generate thousands of high-skilled jobs in manufacturing and construction, as well as provide long-term employment opportunities.
