Portugal Achieves 149-Hour Renewable Energy Milestone in 2023

Portugal achieved a significant milestone by operating on renewable energy for 149 consecutive hours from October 31 to November 6, 2023, generating 1,102 GWh and exceeding consumption by over 20%. This period included a record 131 hours without thermal power, with renewables supplying 71% of electricity by the end of 2024. The country is also advancing its renewable capacity through a 2 GW floating offshore wind auction and a 1.32 GW pumped-storage hydro plant, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050.
