The dredging of Progreso's navigation canal is 74% complete and expected to finish in Q1 2026, enabling larger vessels. The project increases canal depth from 12.5m to 13.5m and width from 145m to 180m, allowing simultaneous navigation of two large ships.

Total project costs are estimated at 12.225 billion pesos, with the federal government contributing 10.2 billion pesos. The completion is set for August 2028, with potential for earlier finish depending on weather conditions.
