Punjab Invests Over Rs. 2,900 Crore in Water Supply and Sanitation Projects Covering 1,706 Villages

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has invested over Rs. 2,900 crore to enhance water supply and sanitation infrastructure across the state. This initiative has improved access to safe drinking water for over 34 lakh families.

An annual implementation plan of Rs. 2,190.80 crore for FY 2025-26 has been approved for rural sanitation. Punjab has achieved complete Functional Household Tap Connections for rural households, now benefiting 25 lakh households through 15 major surface water projects, with four projects commissioned and 11 nearing completion.

Additionally, 205 rural water supply schemes have been completed, costing Rs. 278.37 crore. Future projects include 144 water supply schemes for 176 villages, set for completion by 2026-27. The government is also focusing on technological advancements, implementing IoT systems in 346 schemes and establishing a network of accredited laboratories for water quality monitoring. Significant efforts are underway for sanitation, including toilet construction and biogas plants.
