Rio Tinto Gains Majority Control of Nemaska Lithium in Quebec

Rio Tinto has acquired a 53.9% stake in Canada's Nemaska Lithium, taking control of the lithium producer. The Government of Quebec holds the remaining 46.1%. Both parties will continue funding the lithium hydroxide plant in Becancour, with production expected to start in 2028. Quebec will invest an additional $200 million, while Rio Tinto has already committed over $300 million in 2026 to support lithium development in the province.
