Rosenergoatom Develops Carbon-Carbon Components for High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor

HYDROGENFUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER

Rosenergoatom, part of Rosatom, has developed full-size carbon-carbon composite components for a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR). Research began in 2023 at OKBM Afrikantov in Nizhny Novgorod, leading to the approval of the preliminary HTGR design.

Tests at the Institute of Reactor Materials confirmed optimal properties of carbon material for HTGR components. The technology aims to enhance reliability and reduce reactor installation size, focusing on large-scale hydrogen production with a planned NPP featuring four 200 MWt HTGR units.
