SAIL Advances Green Steel Production with Hydrogen Trials and Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is testing the integration of green hydrogen into its steelmaking process as part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Chairman Amarendu Prakash announced these initiatives during the company's 53rd annual general meeting, highlighting projects focused on hydrogen-based steelmaking, carbon capture, and renewable energy.
The Ministry of Steel has defined "green steel," categorizing emissions to encourage lower carbon output. SAIL operates five integrated steel plants with a total capacity exceeding 21 million tonnes.
