Samskip has selected Norwegian Hydrogen as the green hydrogen supplier for its two hydrogen-powered SeaShuttle vessels, which will operate between the Netherlands and Norway starting in 2027. The vessels will utilize hydrogen propulsion systems powered by fuel from Norwegian Hydrogen's Rjukan project, expected to produce liquid hydrogen by 2028, and are projected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 27,000 tonnes. The initiative is backed by €31.5 million from the EU Innovation Fund and €13.2 million from European Hydrogen Bank auctions.
