Selangor Plans Centralized Anaerobic Digestion System for Pig Waste Management in Tanjung Sepat
BIOFUELS
The Selangor government is implementing a centralized Anaerobic Digestion System (ADS) in Tanjung Sepat to manage the daily waste generated by 80,000-100,000 pigs, while also planning to relocate pig farms to Bukit Tagar. The ADS, which will treat approximately 200-250 tonnes of pig waste daily using mesophilic continuous stirred-tank reactors, aims to produce biogas and organic fertilizer, with operations expected to begin within 16-18 months at a cost of US$5-6 million. This environmentally sustainable solution may later be adapted for other organic waste treatments.
