Senegal has inaugurated the Walo Storage plant in Bokhol, the first battery energy storage facility in West Africa, combining 16 MW of solar capacity with 10 MW of lithium-ion battery storage. The project, funded by a €40 million investment, aims to contribute to the government's goal of 40% renewable energy in the national mix, reducing CO2 emissions by 26,600 tons annually and creating 217 local jobs. The electricity generated will be sold to Senelec under a 20-year contract.
