HYDROGEN

Shellharbour City Council has awarded a waste collection services contract to Remondis Australia Pty Ltd, starting on July 1, 2027, for seven years, with options for three one-year extensions. The contract aims to provide cost-effective and reliable services, maintaining current waste services while enabling improvements for sustainability.

The council's goals include reducing waste to landfill, cutting carbon emissions, and achieving an 80% resource recovery rate by 2030. The new contract will introduce a modern collection fleet with hybrid and hydrogen-powered trucks, upgraded technology for efficiency, and encourages proper use of FOGO and recycling bins. This collaboration with Wollongong City Council supports local jobs and regional cooperation.
