Skovgaard Energy Launches World's First Dynamic Green Ammonia Plant in Denmark
Skovgaard Energy has launched its first dynamic green ammonia demonstration plant in Ramme, Denmark, with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes per year. The facility integrates 50MW of solar energy and 12MW of wind energy, utilizing electrolysis and ammonia synthesis without hydrogen storage.
Developed in collaboration with Topsoe and Vestas, the project aims to adapt to renewable energy fluctuations, thereby reducing operational costs. It received DKK 81 million ($12.7 million) in funding from the Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program.
The plant is designed to enhance the cost-effectiveness of green ammonia production, which is seen as a potential fuel for maritime transport and a lower-carbon alternative for fertilizers. The first production occurred on December 20, 2025.
