SONATRACH and European Partners Advance Green Hydrogen Development through SoutH2 Corridor
SONATRACH Group, led by CEO Nour Eddine DAOUDI, participated in an event in Berlin showcasing the progress of the SoutH2 Corridor project, a collaboration with SONELGAZ (Algeria), VNG AG (Germany), SNAM and Sea Corridor (Italy), and Verbund Green Hydrogen (Austria). This initiative aims to produce hydrogen in Algeria for export to Europe.
High-level energy sector representatives from Algeria, Germany, Italy, and Austria discussed advancements and necessary conditions for successful cooperation. The ALTEH2A alliance, supported by Algeria's renewable energy resources, focuses on green hydrogen production for the European market.
The European Commission has recognized these projects as Projects of Common Interest (PCI). In January 2025, Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Austria, and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to the Corridor. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in October 2024 among the involved companies to assess the feasibility of the integrated hydrogen project.
