South Africa Validates Membrane Electrode Assembly for Hydrogen-Powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
HYDROGENFUEL CELL
A South African membrane electrode assembly (MEA) has been successfully validated in a commercial aviation-grade fuel cell stack for unmanned aircraft. This marks a significant achievement for local fuel cell technology, which aligns with South Africa's hydrogen and fuel cell strategy.
The validated MEA was developed through a collaboration involving institutions like the University of Cape Town and FlyH2 Aerospace. The Dragonfly V unmanned aircraft, powered by this technology, represents a step toward hydrogen-electric aviation in South Africa.
