Space Forge Launches Microwave-Sized Factory to Produce Semiconductors in Orbit
SPACE ECONOMY
Space Forge has successfully launched a microwave-sized factory into low Earth orbit to produce semiconductor-grade materials, leveraging the microgravity environment to achieve atomic structures that are significantly purer than those made on Earth. The initial unit, launched aboard a SpaceX rocket, can reach temperatures of around 1,000°C, and the company is developing a larger factory to manufacture materials for approximately 10,000 chips. Future missions will also test a heat shield for safe re-entry of materials to Earth, reflecting the growing interest in space-based manufacturing.
