Speedway, Indiana will increase sewer rates to fund a $15 million to $18 million wastewater treatment plant expansion mandated by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. A public hearing on the rate hike is set for March 9, with construction bids opening March 5.

The project includes a combined sewer tank, a wet-weather treatment facility, and UV disinfection upgrades. Without state grants, the town will finance the project through sewer revenue bonds, leading to estimated monthly increases of $8 to $12 for average households.
