St Kitts and Nevis Achieves Zero Maternal Deaths in 2025 and Launches Desalination Plant
WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew announced key developments including zero maternal deaths in 2025, nearing completion of the first MRI facility, and the commissioning of a government-owned desalination plant in St Kitts and Nevis.
The maternal health success results from a coordinated monitoring system and the establishment of a high-risk pregnancy support fund. The desalination plant, costing EC$50-60 million, produces two million gallons of potable water daily as part of a broader water strategy. Additionally, the government acquired 77.23 acres of land in Frigate Bay for residential and commercial development.
