STRABAG UK and UEL are collaborating on a 26-month project funded by Innovate UK to develop a sustainable tunnelling grout. The £216,000 project aims to replace traditional cement-heavy grout with an alternative made from construction waste and biowaste, reducing embodied carbon by over 61%. The new formulation incorporates materials like filter cake from water treatment and agricultural by-products to improve flow performance while maintaining structural integrity.
