Taichung Completes LED Streetlight Transition to Cut Emissions and Costs

CARBON CAPTURE

Taichung's Construction Bureau has completed the transition to LED streetlights, replacing 268,000 sodium lamps by late 2025, which is projected to save 80 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and reduce carbon emissions by 40,000 metric tonnes annually. The upgrade enhances road illumination from 12 lux to 40 lux, improves traffic safety, and allows for faster maintenance, while the city expects to save NT$130 million (US$4.1 million) by outsourcing maintenance to private firms.
