Taiwan Sugar Corporation Partners with NARI and Nice Enterprise for Carbon Capture Project
Taiwan Sugar Corporation signed an MOU with the National Atomic Research Institute and Nice Enterprise to capture carbon emissions from sugar production at its Huwei factory in Yunlin County. CO2 from the factory's exhaust will be captured using NARI equipment, converted into baking soda, and processed into soaps and detergents by Nice.
Taisugar aims to create a low-carbon value chain by reusing bagasse as fuel. The Huwei site achieves net-negative emissions through bagasse-fired power generation, and the addition of carbon capture will enhance its green production capabilities.
The project is intended to serve as a model for other industries pursuing carbon reuse and net-zero production, contributing to Taiwan's transition to a circular economy. Taisugar has diversified into hog farming, green energy, and sustainable land management in response to climate change.
