Tamil Nadu Forest Department to Launch Biochar Facility to Combat Invasive Plant Species
CARBON CAPTURE
The Tamil Nadu Forest Department is launching a biochar manufacturing facility in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve to combat invasive plant species that threaten local ecosystems. The project aims to convert 7,000 to 10,000 tons of invasive biomass into biochar, employing local tribal communities in the process. This initiative will utilize emission-controlled pyrolysis, contributing to long-term carbon storage and potentially generating revenue through carbon credit markets.
